According to PetaPixel, Apple is bringing spatial photo and video support to its Safari browser. This means VisionPro users will be able to view these 3D content directly within the browser. Apple product manager Della Huff and designer Billy Sorrentino revealed this news in an interview with the photography website.

The update is expected to roll out in the coming months, allowing web developers to add spatial photos and videos to their websites that will display in 3D on VisionPro. This means even existing photos can be enhanced with depth data through VisionPro and visionOS2, providing a more immersive experience for users.

Spatial photos and videos can be captured using the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as all four iPhone 16 models and the VisionPro itself. Notably, iOS 18.1, releasing next week, will enable spatial photo support for the iPhone 15 Pro.

Currently, spatial photos and videos can only be viewed on VisionPro by receiving them directly via messages, email, or AirDrop, making it difficult to see content sent by others. Safari's support for spatial videos and photos will change this, allowing iPhone users to upload their spatial content to websites, which any user with a VisionPro can then view directly within the website.

For users without VisionPro, spatial photos and videos will display as regular media embeds. Sorrentino explained, "Once you have the spatial content embedded, users with VisionPro will get the spatial content, and users on a laptop will just see a 2D version."

While the exact timing of Safari's spatial photo and video support remains unclear, it is anticipated to arrive before the year's end, potentially as part of the visionOS 2.2 update. This update will further expand VisionPro's capabilities, delivering richer immersive experiences for users.
