Samsung Electronics plans to integrate its memory chips, foundry business and chip packaging services to provide customers with a one-stop service, accelerating the production of artificial intelligence chips to better capitalize on the current AI boom.

One-Stop Service, Accelerating AI Chip Production

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, the demand for high-performance chips is growing. To meet this demand, Samsung Electronics has announced that it will integrate its memory chips, foundry business, and chip packaging services to provide customers with a one-stop service to accelerate the production of artificial intelligence chips.

Samsung Electronics believes that by integrating these businesses, customers can simultaneously coordinate Samsung's memory chip, foundry and chip packaging teams, significantly shortening the time required to produce AI chips. It is estimated that this integration will reduce production time by about 20%, from the usual weeks to just days.

Choi Si-young, President and General Manager of Samsung's Foundry Business, said, "We are living in an age of artificial intelligence, and the advent of generative AI is fundamentally changing the technological landscape." He noted that Samsung expects the global chip industry's annual revenue to grow to $778 billion by 2028, driven by AI chips.

Previously, Samsung's multi-business portfolio model had raised concerns among some customers, who feared that working with Samsung's foundry business could inadvertently strengthen its competitive position in other areas. However, with the surge in demand for AI chips and the need for all chip components to be highly integrated to process large amounts of data quickly and efficiently, Samsung believes its one-stop service will be a core competitive advantage in the future.

Samsung's Leading Technological Advantages, Powering AI Chip Development

In addition to integrating its operations, Samsung is actively promoting its leading chip technologies to support the development of AI chips. Samsung is vigorously promoting its cutting-edge chip architecture technology, the Gate-All-Around (GAA) technology. This transistor architecture helps to improve chip performance and reduce energy consumption. While global foundry leader TSMC is also developing chips using GAA, Samsung adopted GAA technology earlier and plans to begin mass production of its second-generation 3nm chips using GAA in the second half of this year.
