Gates Praises Musk's Climate Efforts but Wants Him to Talk About It More

On July 22, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates expressed high praise for Tesla CEO Elon Musk's contribution to tackling the climate crisis during a recent interview, calling it "extremely important." However, Gates also wished Musk would discuss the topic more frequently.

While discussing his own investments in climate technology, Gates revealed an exchange he had with Musk at the Breakthrough Prize ceremony in April. When asked if he was disappointed by Musk's recent silence on climate issues, Gates said, "Hes pretty outspoken. I wish hed talk about climate more. You know, hes very, very smart and has made an incredibly important contribution in this area.

On whether Musk should focus more on climate-related topics, Gates said, "I think he doesn't listen to anyone telling him what he should talk about. He's very much his own person and says what he wants to say."

Gates and Musk have previously commented on each other publicly and have disagreed on many issues. Gates had questioned Musk's spending of vast wealth on human landing on Mars, arguing that he would prefer to allocate funds to vaccine development to "save lives." Nevertheless, Gates praised Musk as a future outstanding philanthropist.

Gates also mentioned that Musk became quite harsh towards him after learning about his shorting of Tesla stocks. He was very nasty to me after he found out that I had shorted Tesla. Hes nasty to a lot of people, so you just have to get over it, Gates added that he later apologized to Musk.

In the interview, Gates also discussed his views on climate investment and artificial intelligence. Musk had previously commented that Gates' knowledge about AI was "limited." Gates also acknowledged his shortcomings on climate issues, particularly his frequent air travel which resulted in a significant carbon footprint.

As of press time, representatives for Gates and Musk have not responded to requests for comment.
