Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed during the company's earnings call on Thursday that ChatGPT is expected to be integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia by the end of the year. The announcement confirms news the company shared at its WWDC conference in June, where it revealed that ChatGPT was coming to iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Cook's comments indicate that Apple is moving forward with the ChatGPT integration as planned and expects to bring the feature to its devices within the next few months. Siri will, with user consent, be able to directly display ChatGPT's answers in response to user questions and prompts. ChatGPT will be part of Apple's system-wide "Writing Tools" feature, allowing users to generate text and images.

Apple states it will use OpenAI's latest GPT-4o model to power ChatGPT on its platform. iPhone, iPad, and Mac users will have free access to ChatGPT without requiring an account. ChatGPT Plus users can connect their accounts to use paid features on these devices.

Apple promises that OpenAI will not store ChatGPT requests made from its devices, and users' IP addresses will be protected.

Earlier this week, Apple released the iOS 18.1 beta for developers, which included the "Apple Intelligence" feature. However, the ChatGPT integration is not yet available in the beta.

To use the "Apple Intelligence" feature, users will need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, or a Mac or iPad with an M1 chip or later. The device's language must be set to US English, with support for other languages expected to be rolled out next year.

"Apple Intelligence" is expected to launch fully around March 2025 with the public release of iOS 18.4. These features will empower users to summarize text, prioritize notifications and emails, generate custom emojis and images, and more.

The technology will also provide Siri with more powerful capabilities, enabling it to understand more complex language, control apps more deeply, sense screen content, and deliver personalized context.
