Consulting firm CINNOResearch's latest data shows that sales of foldable smartphones in the Chinese market reached 2.62 million units in the second quarter of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 125% and a month-on-month increase of 11%. This marks the fourth consecutive quarter of triple-digit year-on-year growth. This strong growth momentum indicates that the foldable smartphone market is in a rapid development stage and is gradually becoming an important part of the smartphone market.

In terms of brand competition, Huawei continues to lead the market with its leading technological prowess and strong brand influence. Data shows that Huawei captured a 35.2% market share in the second quarter, up 1% year-on-year, solidifying its position as the top player in the domestic foldable smartphone market. Vivo, thanks to the outstanding performance of its new Vivo XFold3 series, achieved a 31.9% market share, ranking second. OPPO, however, saw its market share decline by 5% year-on-year due to a longer launch cycle for its new models, ranking third in China with an 11.1% market share.

Beyond brand competition, the technological development of foldable smartphones is also attracting significant attention. From 2020 to the first half of 2024, the body weight of newly launched foldable phones has shown a significant downward trend, with the median decreasing from 282g in 2020 to 204g in the first half of 2024, marking a weight reduction of 28%. This trend indicates that foldable smartphones, while pursuing powerful functions, are also continually improving the user experience, providing users with a more comfortable usage feeling.
