IT Home, August 22 - According to Bloomberg, Apple App Store Vice President Matt Fischer will be leaving the company in October as Apple prepares to restructure the App Store to address regulatory changes. Apple plans to split the App Store team into two separate teams, one focusing on the App Store and the other overseeing alternative app distribution channels.

Earlier this year, Apple allowed iOS apps to be downloaded from alternative app stores and websites in the European Union, a change the company was required to make to comply with the Digital Markets Act. To handle EU regulatory compliance regarding app distribution and alternative payment methods, App Store head Phil Schiller is shifting the App Store's hierarchy.

Fischer, who joined Apple in 2003 and oversaw iTunes marketing, has served as App Store Vice President since 2010. In an email to Apple employees today, Fischer stated he had been considering leaving Apple, and the restructuring provided a suitable opportunity.

Following Fischer's departure, App Store Senior Director Carson Oliver will oversee the App Store, while Director Ann Thai, responsible for App Store features, will lead the team focusing on alternative app distribution.
