Recently, a keen user discovered that in the latest update for Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, the lock screen no longer displays "Fast Charging" while charging, instead showing the estimated time until completion. This change has sparked discussions among users on the intuitive judgment of phone charging status.

Google has adjusted the fast charging standard for the Pixel 9 series. Now, the "Fast Charging" prompt will only appear on the lock screen when the charger's output power reaches at least 20W. This change signifies a significant improvement in Google's fast charging standard, raising it from the previous 7.5W threshold to 20W.

However, it's noteworthy that even when charging Pixel 9 series phones with Google's official 45W USB-C charger or any other charger with at least 20W output, the lock screen still shows "Fast Charging." This phenomenon is not a system bug, but rather a consequence of an Android system update.

On Pixel 9 series phones, the system property charging_string.apply_v2 has been set to true, thus raising the "Fast Charging" threshold from 7.5W to 20W. While this relevant code was initially found in the beta version of Android 15, Google has already implemented this new standard in the pre-installed Android 14 firmware of its Pixel 9 series.

Currently, other Pixel phone models still use the older 7.5W fast charging threshold, so they continue to display "Fast Charging" while charging.

This charging interface adjustment reflects Google's emphasis on user experience, shifting from the intuitive "Fast Charging" label to a more precise charging time display, providing users with clearer information. This change also embodies Google's continuous exploration and optimization efforts in fast charging technology.
