Today, the first benchmark results for the Apple A18 Pro appeared on Geekbench, tested on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The chip scored 3018 in the single-core test and 7751 in the multi-core test. Compared to the A18, the A18 Pro's single-core performance is slightly weaker, but its multi-core performance is significantly better. In comparison with the Android camp, the A18 Pro's single-core score surpasses the Dimensity 9300 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while its multi-core score is roughly on par with the Dimensity 9300.

According to Apple, the A18 Pro features a 6-core architecture with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. It boasts a larger cache compared to the A18 and integrates the next-generation ML machine learning accelerator. Apple claims a 15% performance improvement and a 20% reduction in power consumption compared to the A17 Pro, calling it the fastest smartphone CPU ever. Additionally, the A18 Pro supports dynamic caching and mesh shading technology, maintains 16 cores in the neural network unit, and increases memory bandwidth by 17%.

This chip will be first featured on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, supporting Apple intelligence and being the most powerful smartphone chip in Apple's history. However, facing the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the Apple A18 Pro's advantage is no longer apparent. Qualcomm's next-generation chip outperforms the A18 Pro in both single-core and multi-core performance.

Based on the benchmark results, the A18 Pro still holds a lead in multi-core performance, but lags slightly behind the A18 in single-core performance and faces a strong challenge from Qualcomm. It is worth looking forward to the official release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will bring a new competitive landscape to the mobile chip market. Ultimately, the question of who will dominate the mobile chip landscape remains to be seen.
