HTC Unveils Standalone VR Headset VIVE Focus Vision, Offering Lossless PCVR Experience
HTC late yesterday launched its new headset, the HTC VIVE Focus Vision. The device not only supports standalone operation but also allows users to play PCVR games with visually lossless quality. As an upgrade to the Focus 3, VIVE Focus Vision features significant improvements in visuals, tracking, and connectivity while being more affordable. The VIVE Focus Vision headset is now available for pre-order on HTC VIVE's official JD.com store for 9,888 yuan. For reference, the overseas price of the new product is 999 (IT Home Note: Currently about 9,355 yuan).
The VIVE Focus Vision is a standalone headset that inherits the rear battery design, 2.5K LCD display (90Hz refresh rate, 120-degree field of view), Fresnel lens, and Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen1 processor from the VIVE Focus 3. It adds stereoscopic color passthrough capabilities through dual 16MP cameras and depth sensors.
VIVE Focus Vision supports eye tracking and automatic IPD adjustment, which is very convenient for VR experience companies that receive hundreds of visitors daily. Another significant improvement is its support for foveated rendering, which can reduce the demands on graphics card hardware. The VIVE Focus Vision features a larger internal fan that draws more air into the system while being quieter. Besides keeping the headset cool during extended gameplay, it also helps prevent fogging of the optical system. The headset is still compatible with prescription glasses, eliminating the need for additional prescription lenses.
The VIVE Focus Vision comes with controllers, and hand tracking is reportedly significantly improved compared to the Focus 3. In terms of internal configuration, VIVE Focus Vision upgrades the memory from 8GB in Focus 3 to 12GB. Onboard storage remains at 128GB, and microSD card support is still available to extend the storage capacity.
VIVE Focus Vision comes with a new (optional) DisplayPort streaming kit that connects to a computer and power source, eliminating battery life concerns and promising higher visual quality than USB-C. The VIVE streaming direct connection combo (compatible with DisplayPort mode) is priced at 1,388 yuan, and pre-ordering the new headset comes with a chance to receive the combo for free.
