IT Home, September 21st: Yesterday, Richard Yu, Executive Director and CEO of Huaweis Consumer Business Group and Chairman of Huaweis Intelligent Automotive Solutions Business Unit, appeared on CCTVs news program to discuss the new Huawei MateXT tri-folding phone with host Nigmaiti.
Nigmaiti said, "People spotted you using this phone back in August on a plane. You were really low-key, but it was also a little bit 'humblebrag'. Yu replied, "We have information security regulations and face fines for leaks! I thought I was using it as a 'tablet' when I unfolded it. I didn't expect anyone to suspect it. Tablets aren't that thin, so it was obvious it was a Huawei tri-folding phone."
Nigmaiti responded that this phone is "hard to miss by anyone, anywhere," to which Yu continued, "Because I was using it as a tablet, I unfolded it thinking nobody would notice. I frequently use this (phone) on planes, so I didn't expect someone with sharp eyes to spot it at all. I've been using it for months now before it even launched."
In August, IT Home reported multiple times about Yu being seen using Huawei's tri-folding phone. The phone's folded thickness is quite impressive, not bulky despite the layered design, and slightly thicker than typical straight-screen phones.
On September 20th (yesterday), the Huawei MateXT Extraordinary Master phone officially launched, marking the world's first mass-produced tri-folding phone. The Huawei MateXT Extraordinary Master comes in two colors: Ruihong (Red) and Xuanhei (Black), and three storage options: 16GB + 256GB, 16GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 1TB.
This new phone boasts a new hinge that allows for both inward and outward folding, powered by the "Huawei TianGong Hinge System." The rear camera design features Huawei's classic star-diamond design.
