iOS 18 Touchscreen Issues Are Affecting Some iPhone Users
Some iPhone users have reported experiencing intermittent touchscreen issues after upgrading to iOS 18. Their devices are not responding properly to taps and swipes. This issue seems to affect various models, including the latest iPhone 16 series and older devices like the iPhone 14.
Users on Reddit have reported unresponsive areas on their screens, particularly when interacting with the virtual keyboard, leading to input errors. According to Macrumors, while the issue was initially thought to affect only iPhone 16 Pro models, user feedback suggests it's more widespread.
The prevailing belief is that the issue is software-related, stemming from iOS 18's anti-touch algorithm being too aggressive. This is especially problematic on devices like the iPhone 16 Pro with narrower bezels, where users are more likely to inadvertently trigger the anti-touch mechanism while holding the device, resulting in the phone rejecting all touch input.
A demonstration video posted by user KhaosTian further illustrates the software-related nature of the problem. The video shows the iPhone 16 series rejecting all touch input when the anti-touch feature is triggered.
Assuming the issue is indeed caused by the oversensitive anti-touch algorithm, Apple should be able to address it with a future system update. As of now, Apple hasn't made any official statement about this issue.
While Apple has yet to offer an official response, we believe they will address the issue as soon as possible. After all, touchscreen functionality is one of the most fundamental aspects of smartphones, and any software issue that impacts it should be prioritized.
