Starkey Meizu Lucky08: AI Empowered, Long-lasting Battery Life, A Personalized Choice at the 2000 Yuan Price Point
The Lucky08 AI phone, launched at the Starkey Meizu AI Ecosystem Launch Conference on the afternoon of September 25th, is priced starting at 1599 yuan. It focuses on AI features and long battery life. As a phone that emphasizes design under the Meizu brand, the Lucky08 is somewhat "unorthodox" compared to its predecessors: it is Meizu's first phone to feature a circular camera module design, equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen2 processor, a 6000mAh battery, and a "unique at the 2000 yuan price point" 1.5K 144Hz LTPO high-brightness eye protection screen. IT Home received the 12GB+256GB Starry White color variant of the Starkey Meizu Lucky08 phone immediately, and here's a look at the new phone's user experience.
I. Appearance Design
The Starkey Meizu Lucky08 phone's packaging box uses a conventional design, with a pure white background, the front printed with "MEIZULucky08" and "AI" logos, while the side features a red label indicating "AgiftfromDreamSmartLuckyStar." (A gift from Space-Time DaoYu - Geely Travel Constellation's Third Track Satellite No. 08), signifying the meaning of this phone.
Unboxing the phone, the Lucky08 deviates from Meizu's "small and beautiful" family-style camera design, adopting a new design language for the first time - Star Trail Technological Aesthetics. The cameras are arranged in a triangle, with the 100MP main camera at the top, the macro lens in the lower left corner, and a flash in the lower right corner.
The Lucky08 features a right-angle frame design. Traditionally, this would compromise the phone's grip, but Meizu has incorporated curved edges, coupled with the 202g overall weight and the wide body, resulting in evenly distributed weight, making the entire phone comfortable to hold and not feeling bulky or heavy. It can also be easily held with one hand.
The front of the phone features a 1.75mm ultra-narrow four-sided flagship screen, 2.5D micro-arc on the front and back, G3 perfect rounded corners, and a 93.55% screen-to-body ratio. Notably, the Starry White color variant still uses a white panel on the front of the screen. My first impression of this screen is that it's visually comfortable, performing well even in bright outdoor environments.
This screen is a 6.78-inch OLED screen, using Tianma U8 luminous material, supports 144Hz refresh rate, can be switched to 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, full-screen peak brightness of 1600nit, local peak brightness of 5000nit, and low-brightness 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
The most eye-catching feature of this phone is the red multi-function AI button on the side. According to official promotional materials, this button serves as both the power button and the AI button, allowing for AI search, song recognition, audio conference calls, semi-automatic call answering, and various AI functions with a double-click.
The packaging box also includes an original protective case, 33W fast charging adapter and cable, ejection pin, and other accessories. Overall, the Starkey Meizu Lucky08 phone features a new camera Deco design, evenly distributed weight, and a high-quality 1.5K screen. It's a great value for money at this price point.
II. Usage Experience
The Starkey Meizu Lucky series is positioned as "beautiful and practical." The first model in the series, the Meizu Lucky08, is equipped with a Snapdragon 7s Gen2 processor, pre-installed with the native FlymeAIOS system, and features over 100 AI functions. IT Home focused on testing some of the phone's features.
1. AI Answering
This feature allows for AI-assisted phone answering, supporting both fully automatic and semi-automatic AI responses. In semi-automatic mode, AI can generate three response suggestions based on the conversation, and the user can choose to reply or manually type a response. The Lucky08 will output the reply content through voice. In fully automatic mode, AI will take over the call and automatically respond based on the content or choose to hang up.
2. AI Call Summary
Using the AI answering feature, call records will be saved. The Lucky08 will automatically generate content and to-dos based on the call records. It's worth noting that to add this to notes, the user needs to click on the corresponding call record, play back the call content, and then view the call summary.
3. AI Assisted Input
Based on the content of the message, the Lucky08 can assist users in inputting content, currently supporting intelligent association, one-button input, sending text messages, writing reviews, etc. It also supports generating replies in a specified tone.
4. AI Notes
AI-powered notes app, supports text writing and content editing assistance, including generating articles, to-dos, social media copy, agendas, etc. This feature also supports summarizing, translating, and correcting notes content.
5. AI Global Recording
This feature supports global recording within system applications and also supports generating summaries and abstracts for all recording files.
During the past two days of testing, my biggest feeling about the Lucky08's AI capabilities is that they are close to everyday life. They primarily focus on covering life and work scenarios, avoiding generative capabilities such as image creation and text generation. This makes it more practical for ordinary consumers. So far, the few AI features that Meizu promotes are indeed very helpful in everyday life. For example, when it's inconvenient to answer a phone call, you can have the Lucky08 answer for you. When using the notes app, users can write down their thoughts more quickly with the assistance of AI, and simple information can be easily summarized.
III. Performance Test
In terms of performance, the Starkey Meizu Lucky08 phone is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen2 processor, manufactured using a 4nm process. The Kryo CPU features four 2.4GHz large cores + four 1.95GHz small cores, paired with Adreno GPU, suitable for FHD+ 144Hz displays, supports up to 12GB 3200MHz LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 4.0 flash storage.
- IT Home first used Antutu Benchmark V10 for benchmarking. The Lucky08 achieved a total score of 630641 points, with a CPU score of 214477 points and GPU score of 118224 points. I further tested it using GeekBench6, and the results showed a single-core score of 1018 points and a multi-core score of 2941 points.
- Additionally, the Lucky08 achieved a score of 61746 points in the storage performance section of Antutu Benchmark. The sequential read speed reached 1062.3MB/s, sequential write speed reached 809.7MB/s, random read and random write speeds reached 514.0MB/s and 438.0MB/s respectively, and AI read speed also reached 158.0MB/s.
- However, talking only about data is too abstract. I then tested the phone using the King's Glory mobile game to see the specific frame rate performance in a gaming scenario.
Here are the default recommended settings upon entering the game:
- Frame Rate: High
- Resolution: Ultra-High
- Overall Picture Quality: Ultimate
- Picture Quality Mode: Smooth Priority
- Water Reflection Effect: Not Enabled
I manually adjusted the frame rate to "Ultra-High" (this option has a frame rate of 90 frames). The duration of the game was about 16 minutes, with an average frame rate of 87.7 frames, and only experienced frame drops during two large-scale team fights.
- Overall, with the support of Qualcomm's second-generation Snapdragon 7s, the Lucky08's performance can basically meet the daily needs of users. It can handle King's Glory with ease, but for more demanding games, the picture quality and frame rate need to be lowered.
IV. Imaging Experience
The Starkey Meizu Lucky08 phone uses a dual-camera setup, featuring a 100MP main camera (Samsung S5KHM6s, 1/1.67") + 2MP depth-of-field lens on the back. The main camera has an equivalent focal length of 23.62mm and supports 9-in-1 equivalent 1.92m pixel fusion; the front camera is an 8MP camera.
Thanks to the 100MP main camera, the Lucky
