While Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series initially garnered attention for its powerful CPU and GPU combination, early reviews revealed some performance shortcomings. To address these issues, Qualcomm has launched solutions at different price points and is actively developing the next generation. Recent reports suggest Qualcomm is testing the next Snapdragon X2 SoC, internally codenamed "Glymur" or "Project Glymur," with a model number of SC8480XPSOC.

Winfuture reports that Qualcomm conducted tests on this SoC in July and August 2024, indicating that development is entering a substantial phase. Notably, the current Snapdragon X SoC has an internal model number of "SC8380XP" and the codename "Hamoa."

Currently, Qualcomm is in the early stages of testing the next-gen SoC, and the development board may be equipped with different NAND and memory components. This is similar to RVP or EVP, which are early evaluation platforms aimed at testing samples before the final specifications are determined.

Prior leaks about the Dell XPS confirmed Qualcomm's development of at least two next-generation variants of the Oryon CPU architecture, which will be applied to Snapdragon X-based AIPC. These include the Snapdragon XV2, slated for mid-2025, and a subsequent Snapdragon V3, anticipated for Q4 2027. While these timelines are not officially confirmed, their credibility is high due to the leaker being Dell, a major Qualcomm partner.

Beyond the high-end lineup, Qualcomm is also planning to introduce an entry-level product in the Snapdragon XPlus series called "X1P-24-100." This offering will retain an 8-core design but is expected to feature slightly reduced clock speeds or GPU performance.

Qualcomm is continuously striving to optimize its Snapdragon X series, and the introduction of the next generation will further enhance its competitiveness in the AIPC landscape. We eagerly await further information from Qualcomm regarding the Snapdragon X2 SoC in the future.
