IT Home reported on October 8th that a new patent for an electronic device was granted to Xiaomi by the State Intellectual Property Office on October 1st. The patent envisions a novel form factor for future foldable phones, enabling detachable functionalities.

According to publicly available information retrieved by IT Home, the patent was filed on March 31st, 2023 and published on October 1st, 2024. The applicant is "Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd.", and the inventor is Gao Yuan. The patent description mentions, "According to the embodiments of the present disclosure, the electronic device has the advantages of simple structure, low manufacturing cost, small size, large screen, and easy assembly."

The patent illustrations reveal that the phone adopts a compact foldable design in its regular state, but it goes beyond conventional folding capabilities by allowing for the detachment of two screen areas. One of the illustrations notably showcases a design reminiscent of the Nokia 6260, featuring a rotatable upper screen section.

Tech media outlet 91Mobile was the first to report on the patent, suggesting that the overall design described in the patent resembles the Xiaomi MIX Flip foldable phone. It showcases three sensors and an LED flash on the rear, with the power button and volume keys located on the right side of the device.

While the patent is currently at the application stage and not yet in actual production, it demonstrates Xiaomi's exploration and innovation in the foldable phone realm, offering fresh perspectives on future phone design.
