The latest data from research firm Counterpoint Research shows that global smartphone sales grew 2% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2024. This marks the first year-over-year growth since the third quarter of 2018, signifying the global smartphone market's return to growth after years of stagnation.

Samsung continued to lead the global smartphone market with a 19% market share. Sustained demand for its A series and performance enhancements in the S24 series are key factors behind its leading position. Apple followed closely behind with a 16% market share and 1% year-over-year sales growth. The iPhone 16 series, launched in September, further solidified Apple's dominance in the high-end market.

Xiaomi maintained a strong growth momentum in the global market, with smartphone sales increasing for four consecutive quarters. This quarter, Xiaomi captured the third position with a 14% market share. Notably, in August, Xiaomi's market performance briefly surpassed Apple, reaching the global second position.

OPPO secured the fourth spot with a 9% market share and achieved its highest sales since the third quarter of 2023. vivo also performed admirably, achieving a 9% market share to enter the top five. It has become the leading vendor in two of the world's largest smartphone markets: China and India.
