Honor CEO Zhao Ming: Magic7 Will Use Snapdragon Chip, No Plans for Kirin Chip in the Short Term

On October 14th, Honor Terminal Co., Ltd. CEO Zhao Ming and Zhou Hongyi, founder and chairman of 360 Group, participated in a live AI discussion. During the livestream, the host asked Zhao Ming if the company would be using the Kirin chip. Zhao Ming responded: "This generation's Magic7 will support the latest Snapdragon chip. Using Kirin chip is not very likely in the short term. I know many people hope for that opportunity."

As previously reported by IT Home, Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. decided to sell all of Honor's business assets in 2020 to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co., Ltd. Following the transfer, Huawei does not hold any shares in Honor and is not involved in its management or decision-making. After gaining independence, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei said in a farewell speech: "After Honor and Huawei divorce, there should be no lingering ties. The new Honor should become Huawei's strongest competitor." Last September, Honor CEO Zhao Ming refuted rumors of Honor returning to Huawei at the VPurse phone launch event, stating that it was absolutely impossible.

In the livestream, Zhao Ming explicitly stated that the Magic7 will be equipped with the latest Snapdragon chip and that using the Kirin chip is unlikely in the near future. This statement once again confirms Honor's direction after its independent operation: focusing on its own brand building and product development while maintaining an independent development path from Huawei.

The "divorce" between Honor and Huawei generated significant public attention at the time, with many believing Honor would return to Huawei after becoming independent. However, Honor CEO Zhao Ming's statement, along with Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei's remarks, indicates that Honor and Huawei have completely separated and will be competing in their respective fields moving forward.
