The Snapdragon Technology Summit, scheduled from October 22nd to 24th, is set to witness the unveiling of the highly anticipated new generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform. Qualcomm has released a teaser video showcasing the platform, with the most exciting aspect being the debut of its self-developed Oryon CPU.

The Oryon CPU has previously been featured in the Snapdragon XElite computing platform, where its impressive performance and power efficiency left a mark. Its inclusion in the Snapdragon 8 mobile platform promises further performance enhancements, particularly in single-core performance, making it a highly anticipated addition. Back in July, during the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Showcase, Qualcomm announced that the Oryon CPU would be making its way to mobile platforms. According to leaks, the Oryon CPU will likely adopt a 2+6 big.LITTLE architecture with the super core clocking at a remarkable 4.2GHz. This represents a 0.8GHz boost compared to the X4 super core in the Snapdragon 8Gen3 leading edition, translating to a theoretical 20% performance improvement. Coupled with architectural and process upgrades, its actual performance is expected to be even more robust.

Based on available information, the new generation Snapdragon 8 is poised to dominate in multi-core performance. The adoption of the Oryon CPU marks a new chapter for Qualcomm in mobile platform CPU architecture. While early Snapdragon SoCs utilized the self-developed Kryo architecture, they later shifted to ARM's public version. Now, with a return to self-development, Qualcomm is showcasing its confidence in its in-house architectures.

Apart from the CPU, Qualcomm hasn't disclosed any other specifications. However, it's confirmed that the previously released Snapdragon X80 modem will provide full support for the 5G Advanced standard, commonly known as 5.5G technology. This chip features a dedicated tensor accelerator for AI computations, further optimized through AI to enhance data transmission speed, reduce latency, improve signal coverage and stability, and increase transmission energy efficiency, extending device battery life. Furthermore, the new chip integrates Fastconnect7900, supporting not only Wi-Fi 7 but also achieving a 40% reduction in power consumption through AI enhancements.

The new generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform is also generating buzz for its GPU, NPU, and imaging capabilities. Rumors indicate that the chip can effortlessly handle higher gaming graphics quality, allowing games like "Genshin Impact" to run smoothly at 60 frames per second with native 1080P rendering. However, the most anticipated aspect is the power performance of the new Snapdragon 8. The current Snapdragon 8Gen3 delivers seamless performance for most 60fps mobile games. If the new generation Snapdragon 8 breaks new ground in power consumption, a smooth 120fps experience would become a reality.

While details about AI capabilities are scarce, Honor has already demonstrated the innovative AI intelligence features of MagicOS 9.0, particularly impressing users with the "One-Click Cancel Auto-Renewal" feature. This feature can query and cancel subscriptions with a single utterance, mimicking human interaction. It is reported that the HONOR Magic7, equipped with MagicOS 9.0, will utilize the new Snapdragon 8 flagship platform, hinting at an upgrade to its underlying NPU.

The specifications of the new Spectra ISP for imaging haven't been unveiled yet, but considering the enhanced imaging capabilities of new flagship phones, this new ISP is expected to also represent a significant performance boost. Detailed specifications will be revealed at the summit.

With the launch of the new generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, smartphones incorporating this platform will soon be hitting the market. Based on available information, phone products from brands like Xiaomi, iQOO, and Honor are expected to debut towards the end of October, while realme, ROG, and Nubia have also hinted at the release of their respective new devices. These phone products encompass a diverse range, including comprehensive flagship models, high-performance new devices, and phones specially designed for gaming. Following the Snapdragon Technology Summit, the Double Eleven shopping festival is just around the corner, and with the influx of new Snapdragon 8 flagship phones and older flagships, the upcoming smartphone market is poised to be even more exciting.

It's worth noting that the naming of the new generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform might undergo a change. Speculation suggests that the platform will no longer continue with the Snapdragon 8Gen4 naming scheme but will be rebranded as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Edition mobile platform.
