Redmi K80 Series to Feature 2K Display Across the Board, Xiaomi Dominates 2K Screen Market Share
According to Xiaomi Group Vice President Wang Teng, Redmi has accounted for 70% of the total 2K screen shipments in the Chinese smartphone market over the past three years. If you include Xiaomi, the combined market share of Xiaomi's 2K screen shipments reaches a staggering 90% of the domestic market. This means that essentially all 2K screens in the domestic phone market are shipped by Xiaomi, while other brands have limited 2K screen phone shipments.
Looking back at Xiaomi's phones over the past three years, Redmi pioneered the use of 2K screens in the 2000 yuan price range with the Redmi K50 series. Subsequent generations of Redmi K series phones have consistently featured 2K screens, making it a popular choice among consumers. Other phone brands, on the other hand, predominantly use 2K screens only on their flagship models, with some even opting for 1.5K screens. Obviously, flagship phone shipments cannot match the volume of K series phones, which explains the disparity in market share.
Wang Teng's statement seems to suggest that the upcoming Redmi K80 series will continue to adopt 2K screens across the entire lineup. Leaks indicate that the Redmi K80 series will feature 2K displays across the board, with the standard version sporting a 2K flat screen and the Pro version incorporating a 2K curved screen. The series has already received network access and is expected to launch in November. In terms of specifications, the standard version is anticipated to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the Pro variant will utilize the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.
However, the Redmi K80 series is not without its drawbacks. Due to the high-end hardware configuration, the Redmi K80 series will inevitably see a price increase, with the exact magnitude of the price hike still a mystery.
Despite the potential price hike, Redmi's decision to equip the entire K80 series with 2K screens demonstrates its commitment to promoting the adoption of advanced technology. As 2K screen technology matures and Xiaomi benefits from its robust supply chain, we may witness more mid-range models featuring 2K screens, offering users a more refined and detailed visual experience.
