The initial ruling, handed down in 2022, stemmed from a case brought by Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), which accused Apple of abusing its dominant market position by forcing developers to distribute apps solely through the App Store. The agency ordered Apple to enable sideloading within 90 days, allowing users to download and install apps from third-party app stores, under threat of significant daily fines exceeding $40,000.
