网站描述：湖南理工学院是一所省属普通本科高校，座落在国家历史文化名城、长江沿岸开放城市岳阳市南湖风景区，自然环境优美，人文底蕴深厚。学校历史可追溯到1910年美国人创办的湖滨大学。新中国成立后，学校历经变迁。1999年3月，经教育部批准，岳阳师范高等专科学校、岳阳大学和岳阳教育学院合并升格为岳阳师范学院。2003年2月，更名为湖南理工学院。2006年12月，学校高标准通过教育部本科教学工作水平评估。2008年12月31日，学校顺利通过专家评审，成为湖南省立项建设新增硕士学位授予单位。
