网站描述：湖北汽车工业学院始建于1972 年，时为第二汽车制造厂工人大学。1983 年6 月经国务院批准成为全日制普通本科院校，由中国汽车工业总公司与湖北省双重领导，以中国汽车总公司为主，中国科学院原学部委员孟少农为首任院长。1985 年，学校所有本科专业取得学士学位授予权；1994 年，学校划归机械工业部管理；1998 年，学校管理体制实行中央与地方共建，以湖北省领导为主，但人、财、物仍由东风汽车公司管理；2001 年，经国务院批准学校办学经费采取中央财政、湖北省财政和东风汽车公司“三家抬”的方案，学校由此进入了“政企共建”的发展时期。2006 年12 月30 日，湖北省人民政府与东风汽车公司正式签署协议，学校移交湖北省人民政府管理，学校的发展完全纳入湖北省高等教育发展规划，学校由此进入一个新的发展时期。
