On June 3rd, KuaiTech announced that Apple will release the iOS17 operating system at 1am on June 6th.
One of the biggest highlights of this system is the "open side loading", which means that users can download applications from channels other than the official AppStore, and developers do not need to list the program on the Apple App Store to provide it to users. This means that developers can waive the cost of listing programs on the Apple App Store, typically ranging from 15% to 30%.
As is well known, currently installing applications on iPhone phones must be done through Apple's official App Store. Open side loading means that the iOS17 system will allow applications to be directly installed through third-party application markets or installation files, similar to the current gameplay on Android phones. Android users can download apps through the official app store developed by the manufacturer or install apps through other channels.
Apple has always firmly opposed sideloading. Claiming that the sideloading mechanism will "disrupt the privacy and security protection of iPhone users," making people vulnerable to malware, fraud, data tracking, and other issues.
However, after the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) came into effect on November 1, 2022, Apple must comply with DMA regulations, otherwise it will face fines of up to 20% of its global revenue if it violates EU law.
For developers, this is very good news. The addition of side loading mechanism will allow them to publish and distribute applications more flexibly, while also saving expensive costs. According to statistics, in the past decade, Apple's total revenue from the App Store has exceeded $1.5 trillion.
It should be noted that iOS17 side loading may only be available in the European region, and other regions may still only be able to download applications in the Apple App Store.
