On November 10th, it was reported that although Microsoft has invested over $10 billion in artificial intelligence research company OpenAI, the software giant is restricting employees from using OpenAI's chat robot ChatGPT.

Microsoft stated in the latest update on its internal website that "due to security and data considerations, many artificial intelligence tools are no longer available for employees to use." Representatives from Microsoft and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Microsoft wrote, "Although Microsoft has indeed invested in OpenAI and ChatGPT has built-in protection measures to prevent improper use, the website is still a third-party external service. This means that due to privacy and security risks, you must use it with caution. This rule also applies to other external artificial intelligence services, such as Midjournal or Replika

Many large companies restrict access to ChatGPT, usually to prevent employees from sharing confidential data with them. After extensive internet data training, ChatGPT can respond to people's chat messages in a way that resembles a real person. The service has over 100 million users.

As of Thursday afternoon local time in the United States, the ChatGPT website has been blocked on the internal devices of Microsoft employees.

Microsoft's update suggests that people use the company's own BingChat tool, which relies on OpenAI's artificial intelligence model support. Microsoft has also been busy updating the Windows operating system and Office applications this year, utilizing OpenAI services that run on Microsoft's Azure cloud infrastructure.

Earlier this week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CEO Sam Altman appeared on stage at OpenAI's first developer conference.

According to reports, in January this year, a senior Microsoft engineer wrote on a forum that employees can use ChatGPT, but it is recommended not to enter confidential information. (Small)
