Xiaomi's Surge OS Maturing: Developer Edition Concludes, Beta Edition Begins a New Chapter
Since its inception, Xiaomi's Surge OS has been dedicated to providing users with a superior experience. In early May this year, Xiaomi officially announced an adjustment to subsequent versions of the Surge OS system, aimed at further enhancing system quality. This adjustment signifies the official retirement of the "Developer Edition" system, which has accompanied Xiaomi phones for over a decade, and the introduction of the brand-new "Beta Edition."
On August 30, Xiaomi officially released the Surge OS 1.0.24.7.28.DEV "Developer Edition" system, marking the final version of the Developer Edition. Currently, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 13, and Xiaomi 12 have received push notifications. Xiaomi stated that for users still using the Developer Edition system, an official version that preserves data will be pushed by the end of September 2024. The specific timing will be announced in each model's push notification.
It's worth noting that Xiaomi also announced the discontinuation of the "Advanced Material" feature for the Xiaomi 12 series, which was supposed to be available with the Surge OS system. Xiaomi explained that after multiple tests on the Xiaomi 12 series, this feature resulted in a 10% decrease in battery life, with fluency lagging behind by over 10%. This performance failed to meet the release standards for the Developer Edition.
To ensure the completeness of features and the stability of performance in the system, the new "Beta Edition" system will be accessible to early internal testers. Users currently on the Developer Edition need to upgrade to OS1.0.24.7.28.DEV before checking recruitment information and re-applying for Beta Edition trial eligibility.
As the official release of the Surge OS 2.0 system nears, Xiaomi will soon launch the Beta Edition recruitment test. Notably, Xiaomi has added a dual-track mode for the Beta Edition and official version. Users can freely choose whether to upgrade to the Beta Edition system, and even if they opt for the official version, data will not be cleared, minimizing the difficulty and risk of system upgrades.
This new dual-mode system not only enhances user experience but also lays a solid foundation for the future development of Surge OS 2.0. With the stability and completeness of the Beta Edition assured, user anticipation for the official release of Surge OS 2.0 will be heightened.
Based on current leaked information, the Surge OS 2.0 system will bring a series of new changes, including:
- New Icons: Surge OS 2.0 will adopt a new icon design, providing a more visually appealing and intuitive experience.
- Smoother System Animations: Updated system animations will be smoother and more natural, improving user experience.
- More Customization Options: Users will have more personalized setting options, allowing them to create their own unique phone interface.
- Enhanced Security: Surge OS 2.0 will further enhance system security, providing users with a safer mobile environment.
- System Base Upgrade: Surge OS 2.0 will upgrade from Android 14 to Android 15, bringing more powerful base functionalities and performance improvements.
- Local Feature Optimization: Many local features are expected to be optimized and enhanced in Surge OS 2.0, delivering a more convenient and intelligent functional experience.
Furthermore, industry insiders have revealed that Xiaomi plans to accelerate the update speed of subsequent new versions, aiming to quickly address issues identified during use, thereby enhancing user reputation.
With the implementation of the Beta Edition and official version dual-mode, the future development of Xiaomi's Surge OS system is worth anticipating. We believe that through this dual-track model, the Surge OS system will continuously improve, delivering a more stable, smoother, and secure mobile experience for users.
