As the autumn smartphone market gears up for another round of fierce competition, manufacturers are pulling out all the stops to showcase their "killer features." The MediaTek Dimensity 9400, a highly anticipated flagship chip this year, is poised to play a pivotal role in this battle.

According to renowned digital blogger @DigitalChatStation, Vivo will launch three X200 series models equipped with the Dimensity 9400 in October, competing head-to-head with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen4. Meanwhile, OPPO is expected to release two Find X8 series models featuring the same chip in Q4.

The Dimensity 9400 boasts improvements in power consumption and AI performance, with a 40% increase in NPU computing power. However, this comes with a price tag increase. Hence, @DigitalChatStation speculates that compact flagship smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9400 might see a corresponding price hike.

The Dimensity 9400 is built on TSMC's second-generation N3 process and comprises one Cortex-X5, three Cortex-X4, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The X5 super-core clocks in at around 3.4GHz.

The Vivo X200 series is anticipated to encompass five models, including the usual "medium," "large," and "ultra" variants, along with a "medium-large" version positioned as a "compact flagship."

Leaks suggest the "medium" and "large" will sport 6.7-6.8-inch deep-curved large screens, while the "medium-large" will feature a 6.4-6.5-inch flat display.

The X200 series is set for significant upgrades in imaging capabilities. The "large" model will adopt the same setup as the X100 Ultra, featuring a Sony 22nm customized 50MP ultra-large sensor new main camera + a 3X mid-size telephoto lens. It will debut True-TCG HDR technology, launch the self-developed VCS 3.0, and introduce a new generation of self-developed image processing chips to enhance nighttime, backlit portrait, and telephoto performance.

In terms of specific configurations, here's what's expected:

• Medium: Dimensity 9400, 1.5K relatively small flat screen, triple camera with single periscope

• Large: Dimensity 9400, 1.5K large deep-curved flat screen, quad camera with dual periscope

• Ultra: Snapdragon 8 Gen4, 2K large deep-curved flat screen, quad camera with dual periscope

It's worth noting that the Vivo X200 "large" engineering model boasts a 6000mAh ice crystal silicon negative electrode battery and single-point ultrasonic fingerprint, but the screen remains at 1.5K resolution. The ultra model (Ultra version) is expected to ditch the curved screen form factor.

With the arrival of the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen4, the autumn smartphone market is poised for even more intense competition. The Vivo X200 series, armed with powerful chip performance, an upgraded imaging system, and a unique "compact flagship" positioning, is well-positioned to carve out a niche in this battleground.
