According to recent supply chain reports, production of Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 series began in June and has been significantly ramped up since then, signaling a promising supply situation for the mid-September launch.
Following initial production in June and the start of manufacturing in India in July, large-scale production of the iPhone 16 has now officially commenced. Korean media outlet ETNews reports that both Samsung Display and LG Display are actively expanding their production capacity to meet Apple's anticipated demand for the new devices launching in September.
Apple is expected to produce 90 million iPhone 16 series units. Meanwhile, the report indicates that 2024 OLED panel production will reach 120 million units. Samsung Display is expected to manufacture 80 million OLED screens, while LGDisplay is projected to produce 43 million, an increase of over 10 million units compared to the iPhone 15 series.
It is worth noting that these figures may change since a third supplier, BOE, is facing approval delays for its iPhone 16 display panels. In 2023, LGDisplay encountered similar delays, causing Apple to increase orders from Samsung.
Historically, display assembly orders typically finalize around mid-September. Previous reports indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro series will feature larger displays compared to the iPhone 15 series. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to have a 6.9-inch screen, up from 6.7 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro is said to feature a 6.3-inch display, an upgrade from 6.1 inches. The standard iPhone 16 models are expected to maintain the same screen sizes as the iPhone 15 series, with the iPhone 16 sporting a 6.1-inch display and the iPhone 16 Plus a 6.7-inch screen.
Overall, the production progress of the iPhone 16 series is significantly accelerated, with a substantial increase in production capacity. It is anticipated that the supply situation in mid-September will be favorable. Apple fans can look forward to potentially securing their new iPhones smoothly this fall.
