What Are the Major Smartphone Releases Coming in the Second Half of Q3 2024?
The second half of Q3 2024 is just around the corner. As we enter the second half of the year, the smartphone market seems to have pressed the accelerator, with major manufacturers releasing flagship models for the second half of the year. Xiaomi launched the MIX Fold4, Huawei brought us the nova Flip, and China Telecom released the Mai Mang 30. These new products have undoubtedly made us look forward to the upcoming Q4.
So, what exciting new products are coming out in the smartphone industry before Q4? What are their new selling points? Let's take a look at the upcoming smartphone market in combination with current leak information.
I. Thousand Yuan Entry Level Market: A Battle Between Xiaomi and Honor
As the most important volume model of the Redmi brand, the Note series has always been known for its high cost-effectiveness. Three months ago, Redmi's official Weibo announced that the Redmi Note 13 series has sold over 15 million units globally, solidifying its dominance in the thousand yuan entry-level market. As we approach September 2024, the successor to the Note 13 series, the Note 14 series, is finally ready to launch.
Following tradition, the Redmi Note 14 series will include three models: the Redmi Note 14, Redmi Note 14 Pro, and Redmi Note 14 Pro+. The core performance configurations of these three products will differ:
- Redmi Note 14 will be powered by the second-generation Snapdragon 7s processor.
- Redmi Note 14 Pro will be equipped with the Snapdragon 7s Gen3 processor.
- Redmi Note 14 Pro+ will be one of the first to adopt the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 processor.
The Dimensity 7350 was released on July 17, 2024, built on TSMC's second-generation 4nm process, using the second-generation Armv9 architecture. The CPU has a maximum clock speed of 3.0GHz. It's safe to say that the top-of-the-line Redmi Note 14 Pro+ will offer impressive performance.
The other configurations of the Redmi Note 14 series are mostly identical. They will feature a 1.5K new material screen, supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and high-frequency eye protection dimming technology. The rear camera system will feature a 50 million pixel large-aperture triple camera, with promising low-light performance. In terms of price, the Redmi Note 14 series is expected to be similar to the previous generation, with a release date of the first half of September 2024. The standard version will start at 1099 yuan for 8GB+128GB, the Pro version will start at 1399 yuan for 8GB+256GB, and the Pro+ version will start at 1899 yuan for 12GB+256GB.
Besides the Redmi Note 14 series, Xiaomi's rival Honor will also launch a thousand yuan phone - the Honor X60. Unlike the Redmi Note 14 series, which focuses on powerful performance, Honor's X-series phones focus on ultra-large batteries and refined design.
The Honor X50, released last year, featured a 5800mAh ultra-large capacity battery with a thickness of only 7.98mm and weighing just 185g. Due to its impressive configuration, the Honor X50 sold over 10 million units in the Chinese market just 10 months after its release, becoming the first Android single product to reach this milestone in the Chinese market since 2023.
The Honor X60 will naturally continue many of the selling points of its predecessor, the Honor X50, as it gained market recognition through its differentiated product strength. Earlier, well-known digital blogger "Digital Chat Station" revealed that the Honor X60 series will feature a high-end design with mass appeal, employing an equal-depth four-curved screen, "challenging flagship form in the thousand yuan segment," equipped with an "ultra-large battery," and also "super anti-drop."
The Honor X50's 8GB+128GB version was priced at 1399 yuan. The Honor X60's price is likely to be similar, not exceeding that level. Although the starting price of the Honor X60 and Redmi Note 14 are identical, the two products target different market segments and are likely to only appeal to specific consumers after launch.
II. Mid-to-High-End Market: realme 13 Pro+ Expectations High
If you're not interested in the thousand yuan entry-level products, then you can pay attention to the upcoming mid-to-high-end phones from realme and moto.
Recently, two realme models, RMX3989 and RMX3920, have been certified and are expected to be part of the realme 13 Pro series, including the realme 13 Pro and realme 13 Pro+. Notably, the realme 13 Pro series was already released in overseas markets in late July 2024.
The realme 13 Pro and realme 13 Pro+ share the same performance, both equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen2 processor and a 5200mAh battery. The main difference between the realme 13 Pro and realme 13 Pro+ lies in their imaging configuration:
- realme 13 Pro features a 50 million pixel LYT-600 main camera + 8
million pixel ultra-wide angle + 2 million pixel triple camera combination, without a periscope telephoto lens.
- realme 13 Pro+, on the other hand, will be equipped with a 50 million pixel LYT600 periscope telephoto lens, featuring a 1/2-inch large sensor, OIS optical image stabilization, 3x optical zoom, and up to 120x digital zoom.
Furthermore, PChome discovered on the Telecommunication Equipment Terminal Network that the realme 13 Pro+ has a 3x optical zoom. This indirectly suggests that the imaging configuration of the realme 13 Pro+ is the same as the overseas version.
In addition to the different camera configurations, the realme 13 Pro and realme 13 Pro+ also have different charging configurations:
- realme 13 Pro supports 45W fast charging, charging 50% in 27 minutes.
- realme 13 Pro+ supports 80W fast charging, charging 50% in 19 minutes.
In terms of price, based on overseas market estimates, the 8GB+128GB version of the realme 13 Pro is priced at approximately 2340 yuan, while the 8GB+256GB version of the realme 13 Pro+ is priced at approximately 2860 yuan. Considering that realme is a Chinese domestic smartphone company, the price of the realme 13 Pro series in the Chinese market is likely to be lower than the overseas market.
Recently, along with the certification of the realme 13 Pro series, Motorola's moto s50 has also been certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with some parameters and photos released. Overall, the moto s50 has dimensions of 154.1mm x 71.2mm x 8.1mm and weighs only 172g, making it even more compact than the small-screen flagship Xiaomi 14.
The back of the moto s50 features a leather-like material with a slightly raised camera area. Three colors are available: Jungle Green, Gentle Peach, and Koala Gray. The moto s50 adopts a right-angle frame, giving it a very tough look. The front of the moto s50 will be equipped with a 6.36-inch screen, with a resolution of 2670x1200 and supporting a 120Hz refresh rate, with a global peak brightness of 1200nit.
In terms of performance, the moto s50 will be equipped with the Dimensity 7300 processor, released in May 2024, using TSMC's 4nm process, consisting of 4 2.5GHz A78 cores and 4 2.0GHz A55 cores, with a Mali-G615MC2 GPU. While overall performance is not as strong as the third-generation Snapdragon 8, it can still handle large-scale online games without any issues.
In terms of charging, the moto s50 will come with a 4310mAh battery, supporting 68W wired and 15W wireless charging. Even when the battery runs out, you can quickly replenish it with wired charging. The moto s50 is expected to be priced around 2000 yuan and will be released in September 2024. The moto s50 is suitable for users who do not pursue extreme
