On August 12th, IT Home learned that the Royole FlexPai3 foldable phone has appeared on a second-hand platform with a price tag of 7300 yuan. This phone is the 8GB+128GB version, equipped with a Snapdragon 765G processor, featuring a pop-up camera design and an outward folding mechanism.
The Royole FlexPai3 was announced back in 2020 but ultimately failed to launch officially. Despite obtaining certification from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), its launch plans have been stalled. According to MIIT certification information, the FlexPai3 measures 147.1138.87 millimeters and its unfolded screen size has been reduced to 7.2 inches from the previous generation's 7.8 inches.
From leaked renderings, the FlexPai3's appearance is largely consistent with those that surfaced in November 2021. The rear camera is positioned in the top left corner of the back, the edges have a rounded transition, the left edge lacks any components, and the right edge integrates volume buttons and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor in a combined key. On the front, the bottom edge of the right screen houses a microphone, speaker, and USB-C port.
One of the phone's most notable features is the opening on the top edge of the right side of the device, accommodating a pop-up front-facing camera. This design saves space on the front screen, enhancing the screen-to-body ratio.
It is known that the FlexPai3 is powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor, released by Qualcomm in 2020 as a 5G mobile platform supporting both SA/NSA dual-mode 5G networks. The 765G processor offers excellent performance and power efficiency, sufficient for everyday use.
The appearance of the FlexPai3 on second-hand platforms might suggest that the official launch plans have been abandoned entirely. While the phone's specifications and design were not outdated at the time, it ultimately failed to see the light of day due to various factors.
The emergence of the FlexPai3 has also raised concerns about the future of Royole Technology. As one of the earliest domestic manufacturers of flexible screen phones, Royole was once held in high regard. However, hindered by factors such as technology and funding, Royole's development has been slow in recent years, even experiencing product stagnation and financial difficulties.
The fate of the FlexPai3 is a reminder and a wake-up call for Royole Technology. In the fiercely competitive foldable phone market, only continuous innovation and improved product competitiveness can win market recognition, otherwise, they will be eliminated from the race.
As foldable phone technology continues to advance and mature, market competition will become even more intense. Whether Royole Technology can seize opportunities and make a comeback remains to be seen.
