As they attempted to show off a live Gemini demo, they were likely battling inner turmoil as their attempt failed twice in a row. Dave Citron attempted to demonstrate the new Gemini Advanced version using a Galaxy S24 Ultra. The smartphone captured a photo of a Sabrina Carpenter concert poster, and the presenter asked the digital assistant to check his calendar to see if he was available when the artist visited San Francisco this year. Dave claimed that Gemini Advanced would extract the relevant information from the image and cross-reference it with the calendar app, thereby providing the result he wanted.

Unfortunately, the demo did not go as planned, as the live demo encountered issues right from the first attempt. Gemini Advanced failed to generate the desired result, presenting an "Oops, something went wrong, try again (13)" error. The second attempt was just as disappointing, with Gemini Advanced malfunctioning again, creating a slightly tense atmosphere.

We don't know how Dave managed to keep smiling in front of the audience. Luckily for him, after deciding to summon Gemini Advanced a third time, the system responded, successfully generating the results, and the audience erupted in applause after several seconds of awkward silence.

It's worth noting that Dave managed to get "Gemini Advanced" working on a different device, suggesting that the Galaxy S24 Ultra might have encountered some issues. Having a backup device of a different model for demos definitely showed foresight.

Despite the slight hiccups in the live demo, the Google team managed to showcase the capabilities of Gemini Advanced. This incident also serves as a reminder that even tech giants cannot entirely avoid mishaps in live demos, and the key is to address the issues and ultimately succeed.
