According to AndroidAuthority, internal sources at Google reveal that the Pixel 9a will feature some key hardware differences compared to the Pixel 9 series. While the Pixel 9a (codenamed tegu) will also be powered by the latest Tensor G4 processor, similar to the Pixel 8a, it will utilize a slightly different version compared to the Pixel 9 series.

Although both chips contain the same silicon die internally, they differ in packaging. The regular Tensor G4 employs FOPLP packaging, whereas the Pixel 9a's Tensor G4 utilizes IPoP packaging. As explained by Samsung, IPoP is thicker and exhibits inferior heat dissipation compared to FOPLP, but is more cost-effective.

Beyond the processor packaging disparity, the Pixel 9a does not feature the new Exynos Modem 5400 employed by the Pixel 9 series. The Pixel 9 series' Exynos Modem 5400 supports features like Satellite SOS, 5G 3GPPRel.17, and boasts enhanced operational efficiency. Reports suggest that the Pixel 9a will retain the Exynos Modem 5300 used in the Pixel 8 series.

It's worth noting that recent leaked photos reveal a Pixel 9a design that diverges significantly from the older A-series Pixel phones and the Pixel 9 series. This implies that the Pixel 9a might possess a unique exterior design style to differentiate it from other Pixel models.
