Market research firm Counterpoint Research's global foldable smartphone survey data reveals that European foldable phone sales grew by 52% year-on-year in the first half of 2024. Within this, sales of smaller foldable phones increased by 19% while larger foldable phone sales surged by a remarkable 133%. European large-screen foldable phone sales doubled in the first half of this year, with Honor's contribution being particularly notable, accounting for 70% of the total growth. Honor experienced an astonishing 22-fold increase in large-screen foldable phone sales in the European market.
The report indicates that large foldable smartphone users particularly appreciate the larger display windows and multitasking capabilities these devices offer. They are also pleasantly surprised by the reliability exceeding their expectations. However, weight and thickness remain the major pain points for large foldable phones an area where Honor excels.
Honor entered the European foldable smartphone market in early 2023 with the launch of the MagicVs. By the end of the year, Honor was the second-largest foldable phone seller behind Samsung. The Honor MagicV2 further reshaped the market landscape. In its folded state, the MagicV2 is only 9.9mm thick and unfolds to just 4.7mm. It boasts a triple-camera setup with a 50MP wide-angle lens, 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 20MP, 2.5x optical zoom telephoto lens all features highly sought after by foldable phone users.
Additionally, the forthcoming MagicV3, scheduled for global release, boasts a folded thickness of 9.2mm and unfolds to 4.35mm, surpassing the thinness record set by the MagicV2 for large-screen foldables. Weighing in at just 226g, it's lighter than many flagship straight-screen phones. Despite its ultra-slim design, the Honor MagicV3 incorporates a periscope telephoto camera module, enabling a maximum 100x zoom capability, delivering clear and realistic images even at long distances.
Honor's success in the European market stems from its deep understanding of user needs and its relentless pursuit of technological innovation. The Honor MagicVs series, with its sleek design, powerful performance, and exceptional imaging capabilities, has resonated with European consumers, becoming a key engine driving the growth of the large foldable smartphone market.
The European market is a vital component of the global foldable smartphone market. Honor's triumph in Europe signifies the potential for even greater breakthroughs in the global foldable phone market. Moving forward, Honor will continue to prioritize innovation, releasing more foldable smartphone products designed to meet diverse user requirements and deliver the most exceptional mobile experiences to users worldwide.
