According to internal Apple documents obtained by MacRumors, the official release of macOS 15.0 Sequoia is expected in mid-September, making it one of the earliest releases of a new macOS version in over a decade. In recent years, the release dates for major macOS updates have been as follows:

The mid-September release of macOS Sequoia would be the earliest release since July 25, 2012, when OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) was released.
Historically, new iOS versions have always been released at least a week before new macOS versions. Sometimes, Apple would leave a significant gap between the two, such as in 2020, where macOS Big Sur was released almost two months after iOS 14.
According to IT Home, major iOS updates are always released before the new iPhone series launches in September. This year, the iPhone 16 series is expected to launch on Friday, September 20th. Therefore, macOS Sequoia could not only be the earliest macOS release in over a decade, but it could also be the first time Apple releases iOS/macOS simultaneously, or even potentially the first time it releases a new macOS version before a new iOS version.
Apple's special event this year is scheduled for 1:00 AM Beijing time on September 10, 2024, where the company will share more information about iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. They will also unveil the iPhone 16 series, new Apple Watches, and fourth-generation AirPods.
