This year's iPhone 16 series didn't offer any groundbreaking upgrades, with the biggest highlight being the addition of an AI feature called AppleIntelligence. However, this feature is not yet publically available. Apple stated it will launch with iOS 18.1 in October, initially in English. Versions in Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish won't be released until next year, and Chinese versions of the iPhone will be completely unable to use it.
In response to Apple's apparent "promising the moon," Xiaomi President Lu Weibing recently posted saying, "Xiaomi 15, 'AI advanced experiences across people, vehicles, and homes,' understands Chinese users better, no need to wait until next year!" This directly criticizes iPhone's AI features while also preheating the launch of the Xiaomi 15 series.
Recent Xiaomi activities suggest the Xiaomi 15 series launch is imminent. It's expected to be officially released next month, globally debuting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. This processor employs TSMC's 3nm process, incorporates Qualcomm's self-developed Nuvia Phoenix architecture, and boasts a maximum core frequency of 4.2GHz.
Lu Weibing previously stated that current phones claiming to be AI phones are actually "AIFeature phones," which utilize AI technology for specific AI functionalities. True AI phones require an operating system rebuilt on an AI large model. Xiaomi's Pengpai OS 2.0 is tasked with fulfilling this goal. It's reported that the Xiaomi 15 series will be the first to feature Pengpai OS 2.0, showcasing a complete AI phone experience.
The launch of the Xiaomi 15 series is sure to spark a competition within the AI phone arena. It remains to be seen if Xiaomi can leverage Pengpai OS 2.0 and the "people, vehicles, home ecosystem" AI experience to break Apple's monopoly in the AI field.
