Tech media outlet, Techopedia, reported today (September 12) that Motorola will be extending the Android support cycle for its smartphones. Starting with the Edge 50 Neo, Motorola will provide five years of Android system updates.
Previously, Motorolas Android update strategy was to offer two years of updates for low-end smartphones and three years for flagship models. According to promotional materials from e-commerce site Flipkart, the Edge 50 Neo is confirmed to receive five years of Android system updates.
This means the Edge 50 Neo, which comes pre-installed with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 19. Additionally, the device will also receive five years of security updates. This move shows Motorolas commitment to providing longer-term software support and improving the user experience.
The Edge 50 Neo is currently available in the European market for 499. It features a Dimensity 7300 chip, a 50MP main camera, and a 4310mAh battery.
Extending the Android support cycle is a significant step by Motorola in demonstrating its responsiveness to user needs and enhancing product competitiveness. The five-year system update guarantee allows users to enjoy a smooth system experience and security for a longer period, while also preserving the value of the phone and extending its lifespan.
We look forward to Motorola applying this policy to more models in the future, offering users sustainable software support and enhancing user satisfaction.
