Based on this standard, theoretically, the iPhone 16 series could support a maximum charging power of 45W. However, Apple did not mention the change in wired charging power at the launch event. Even on the official website's technical specifications page, it still states that the iPhone 16 series can achieve 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes, using a 20W power adapter.
This test result seems slightly conservative, as the iPhone 13 Pro Max already supported a 9V3A charging parameter, reaching a peak charging power of 27W. In actual use, it can be observed that compared to 20W, choosing a 35W or higher wattage Apple power adapter does shorten the time it takes to enter trickle charging, but the heat generation is more significant.
Although the iPhone 16 series has not officially launched, Li Nan, former senior vice president of Meizu, has already posted, "Currently, the actual peak charging power of the iPhone 16 does not exceed 39W," confirming the improvement in fast charging speed for the iPhone 16 series. This means that the iPhone 16 series will achieve at least a peak charging power of 38W or higher, falling short of 45W. Although 38~39W only represents the peak power for a short duration, it still holds practical significance for reducing the charging time when the iPhone is at low battery.
Of course, compared to the fast charging speeds of Android phones, 38W still lags behind. However, for the iPhone, this is already a sizable upgrade. Those intending to purchase the iPhone 16 series can certainly consider pairing it with a 45W PD protocol-supported charger.
It is important to note that when purchasing a charger, ensure you carefully check the specifications, especially the output parameters. For instance, the 45W charger mentioned above supports the PD3.0 protocol, but the output parameters do not include a 15V3A combination, meaning it cannot provide the iPhone 16 with a peak charge of 38W+. It can only achieve a 9V3A peak 27W fast charge.
