Apple is significantly raising out-of-warranty battery replacement prices, specifically targeting the iPhone 16 Pro models. The new out-of-warranty battery replacement cost for the two larger models in Apple's latest iPhone lineup is $119, up from $99 for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will remain at $99.
The last time Apple raised out-of-warranty battery replacement costs was with the iPhone 14 models in 2022. Prices jumped from $69 to $99. This price increase primarily affects the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, while other models remain at their previous price.
It's expected that new buyers won't feel the impact of this change immediately as all new iPhones come with at least one year of AppleCare warranty. Purchasing AppleCare+ warranty service covers most repair costs from Apple for three years or longer. Under AppleCare service policies, users can request a free battery replacement if their battery can no longer hold at least 80% of its original capacity.
According to Apple, the iPhone battery is designed to retain 80% of its original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions, while iPhone 15 and later models are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity after 1000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max batteries are said to have a new metallic casing in addition to being larger, to help improve heat dissipation. This may require additional labor and craftsmanship to replace these batteries, possibly contributing to the increased replacement cost.
Out-of-warranty battery replacement costs for older iPhones vary depending on the model. Battery replacements for all iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 models are $99, while most older models are priced at $89, except for iPhone SE and iPhone 8, which still have a battery replacement cost of $69.
