iPhone 16 Series Pre-Orders Fall Short of Expectations: Apple Employee Purchases Hint at Weak Demand
Apple's new iPhone 16 series officially goes on sale tomorrow morning (September 20th). While this year's lineup boasts upgraded camera systems, these changes may not be enough to entice the majority of users. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently released a prediction report suggesting that iPhone 16 pre-orders over the first weekend will reach approximately 37 million units, a decline of about 12.7% compared to last year's iPhone 15 series.
Kuo attributes this potential drop in iPhone sales to weaker market demand for the iPhone 16 Pro compared to last year's iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, the highly anticipated Chinese version of AppleIntelligence is not launching alongside the iPhone 16 series, which can also affect sales. Coupled with the rise of strong competitors in the Chinese market, Apple faces multiple challenges in achieving its sales goals this year.
Kuo's latest post on X platform reveals that Apple employees can already purchase the iPhone 16 series at employee discount prices. Typically, Apple employees have to wait several weeks after the new iPhone launch to enjoy this perk. Kuo believes this early access signifies that initial demand for the iPhone 16 series is lower than anticipated.
As ordinary consumers, unless you're using an older iPhone model, it's recommended to carefully consider whether to purchase the iPhone 16 series. This year's China-specific iPhone 16 series has several omitted features, and the added functionalities might not appeal to the majority of users.
Firstly, in terms of charging, MagSafe wireless charging is limited to 15W, although wired charging is upgraded to 45W, the actual regular power output has been measured to be around 33W, not significantly different from the previous generation. Secondly, the eagerly awaited Chinese version of AppleIntelligence will only be available next year, which is a disappointment for mainland Chinese Apple fans.
Are you planning to buy an iPhone 16 series this year?
