Apple Intelligence Unlikely to Drive iPhone 16 Sales Supercycle: Counterpoint Research Predicts
Market research firm Counterpoint Research published a blog post today expressing cautious optimism about the impact of Apple Intelligence on iPhone 16 sales, predicting that the year will not see a supercycle.
Counterpoint Research notes that Apple iPhone sales have historically experienced two key supercycles: first with the iPhone 6 in 2016, and second with the iPhone 12/13 in 2021. While these supercycles occurred in different years, they shared a common underlying factor pent-up demand.
The iPhone 6 supercycle was fueled by consumer demand for larger screens, while the 2021 supercycle benefited from pent-up demand during the pandemic and a shrewd product portfolio strategy.
However, Counterpoint Research believes that Apple Intelligence is unlikely to drive the next supercycle. The firm points out that although Apple Intelligence performs well in some use cases, addressing the pain points of certain users, it has not demonstrated widespread appeal.
Counterpoint Research believes that, at least in the short term, there is no significant pent-up demand for GenAI functionality as seen in previous supercycles. Furthermore, the staggered rollout of Apple Intelligence across features and regions is expected to gradually reveal its impact, but an explosive uptake remains unlikely.
In conclusion, Counterpoint Research is cautious about the impact of Apple Intelligence on iPhone 16 sales, believing it is unlikely to drive the iPhone sales into the next supercycle.
