While Apple's iPhone 16/Pro models just hit the market, leaks about the next-generation iPhone 17 are already circulating. According to analyst Ross Young, Apple plans to equip the standard iPhone 17 and the Air model with 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate technology.
Currently, only Pro/Max iPhone models feature 120Hz ProMotion technology. The current iPhone 16 standard and Plus models come with 6.1-inch 2556x1179 resolution and 6.7-inch 2796x1290 resolution OLED panels, respectively, both with a 60Hz refresh rate.
The introduction of ProMotion technology will not only bring smoother visuals to the iPhone 17 standard and Air models but also enhance the phone's power efficiency. This technology allows both models to reduce the refresh rate down to 1Hz, effectively lowering power consumption in scenarios where screen elements remain static for extended periods, such as AOD (Always-On Display).
This means the iPhone 17 standard and Air models will boast a superior screen experience while also extending battery life.
