6400mAh Giant Battery, iQOO Z9 Turbo+ Pushes Battery Life to New Heights
As fast charging technology becomes more prevalent, major phone manufacturers are shifting their focus to innovating battery technology. In the first half of 2024, a surge of smartphones with 6000mAh batteries has emerged, with reports even suggesting that upcoming flagship models from major brands will feature large-capacity batteries. This progress is largely attributed to breakthroughs in battery materials, such as the second-generation silicon-carbon anode material developed by vivo, which significantly enhances battery energy density. Compared to traditional graphite anodes, this new material demonstrates a 20% improvement, even surpassing the performance of extreme-performance graphite anodes by 16%. This not only boosts battery life but also enables faster charging speeds.
Compared to the commonly seen 3000~4000mAh battery capacities of a few years ago, this progress is remarkable. It is anticipated that new phone models unveiled in the second half of this year will prioritize a combination of large-capacity batteries and fast charging to alleviate user concerns about battery anxiety. Currently, we at Kuaikeji have acquired the iQOO Z9 Turbo+, marking the first model in iQOO's product line, and overall, to boast the largest battery capacity to date.
The iQOO Z9 Turbo+ exhibits significant upgrades compared to the Z9 Turbo in two key aspects:
- Unprecedented 6400mAh Battery: Despite a 400mAh increase in battery capacity, the device maintains a slim 7.98mm thickness, with only a 1g weight gain.
- Powerful Performance, Featuring Dimensity 9300+ Dual-Core Solution: It adopts the currently most potent Dimensity 9300+ processor, complemented by the Q1 gaming chip, forming a dual-core solution that delivers a more stable gaming experience and lower power consumption for gamers.
In the following sections, we will delve deeper into the performance of the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ across various aspects.
I. Design: 6400mAh Battery Packed into a 7.98mm Thickness
The iQOO Z9 Turbo+ maintains the design aesthetics of the Z9 Turbo, preserving the same three-dimensional dimensions 163.72 75.88 7.98mm and a weight of 196g. Despite incorporating the massive 6400mAh battery, the device remains remarkably slim, with only a 1g increase in weight.
The front features a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen, boasting a 93.4% screen-to-body ratio. It utilizes the same Huaxing Optoelectronics C8 luminous material as its predecessor, reaching a peak brightness of 4500 nits. Additionally, it offers a 144Hz refresh rate, 1.5K (2800 1260) resolution, 452PPI pixel density, and a 2000Hz instant sampling rate. For eye protection, it employs LTPS technology alongside 3840Hz ultra-high frequency eye protection, quasi-DC dimming, and has received SGS certification for low blue light and low flicker. After eliminating the screen frame, the narrowest bezel measures only 1.54mm.
We received the device in the iQOOs first color, Moon Shadow Titanium, which pays homage to the spirit of lunar exploration. It strives for visual balance between light and representation, utilizing chip-level lithography technology to create a delicate matte light and shadow effect.
The iQOO Z9 Turbo+ features a dual-camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) support on the main camera to effectively minimize blurry photos caused by hand shake. The camera Deco details retain the star track markings, adding a touch of style to the iQOO Z9 Turbo+.
The side view reveals that the power button and volume keys are located on the right side. It adopts a straight-edged middle frame design, with edges treated for a comfortable grip, preventing any discomfort. The top and bottom are equipped with standard noise-canceling microphones, speakers, SIM card slots, USB-C ports, and infrared. The package includes an 80W charger.
II. Performance and Gaming: Antutu Benchmark Scores Nearly 2.19 Million, Q1 Gaming Chip Powers Genshin Impact at 1.5K Resolution + 72fps Gameplay
The Dimensity 9300+ processors CPU utilizes a two-cluster architecture, incorporating an 8-core solution consisting of a Cortex-X4 super-large core and Cortex-A720 large cores. The single Cortex-X4 core reaches a maximum frequency of 3.4GHz. The GPU is a G720MP12, paired with the Q1 gaming chip to form a dual-core solution, maximizing the chip's computing power. The version we received is 16GB + 512GB. We will evaluate the iQOO Z9 Turbo+s performance release in Monster mode through testing, as well as its actual performance during gaming.
Theoretical Performance
In Antutu V10, the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ achieved a score of 2188025 points, with sub-scores of 524065 for CPU, 902459 for GPU, 391476 for MEN, and 370025 for UX.
In the GeekBench6 single-core performance test, it scored 2361 points, while the multi-core score reached 7726 points.
In the GFXBench GPU performance test, the Aztec Ruins (OpenGL), Aztec Ruins (Vulkan), Car Chase, Manhattan 3.1, Manhattan Offscreen, and T-Rex Offscreen tests yielded scores of 220FPS, 229FPS, 144FPS, 263FPS, 381FPS, and 693FPS, respectively.
The iQOO Z9 Turbo+ demonstrates exceptionally strong performance, comparable to that of flagship performance devices.
Gaming Test
1. Honor of Kings
In Honor of Kings, we set the frame rate to Ultra-High, resolution to Ultra-High, and overall image quality to Extreme. During a 15-minute game session, the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ maintained a remarkably stable frame rate, with minimal fluctuations, resembling a straight line. It achieved an average frame rate of 121.31FPS. The average power consumption during gameplay was 2.93W, resulting in a power efficiency ratio of 40.96FPS/W. The hottest area on the back of the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ is the chip region, reaching only 39.4 during gameplay.
2. Genshin Impact
In Genshin Impact, we set the preset image quality to Ultra-High, and then adjusted the game frame rate to 60fps. We conducted a 15-minute random map exploration test using characters like Yelan and Yaoyao, who can move quickly, in the Fontaine region.
Under native resolution, Genshin Impacts average frame rate during a 15-minute game session was 59.56FPS, with a power consumption of 5.1W and a frame energy consumption of 11.68FPS/W. The highest temperature in the chip area of the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ reached 44.6.
Next, we tested its performance with super-resolution and super-frame enabled. We observed that the resolution of Genshin Impact under native resolution is 1800 810; after enabling super-resolution, the game resolution increases to match the screen resolution of 2800 1260. The difference in detail is discernible to the naked eye, with characters' faces, hair edges, and clothing details becoming more refined.
With super-resolution and super-frame enabled, only half the frames need rendering (36fps). Despite the increase in GPU load with the resolution enhancement brought about by super-resolution, the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ effortlessly manages the task, thanks to the Q1 gaming chip. The games average frame rate remained consistently stable throughout the session, reaching 35.81fps. The power consumption during gameplay was 4.82W, about 0.3W lower compared to default settings. After a 15-minute game session, we measured the temperature on the back of the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ using an infrared thermometer. The highest temperature in the chip area was 43, feeling only moderately warm to the touch, about 2 lower than the default settings.
III. Imaging: 50MP Sony Main Camera, Blue Factory's Flagship NICE Algorithm, Excellent Everyday Photos
In terms of rear camera specifications, the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ incorporates a 50MP Sony main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, with the main camera supporting OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).
