September 25, 2024, Shanghai - According to supply chain sources, Huawei's Mate70 series has entered the mass production phase and is expected to be launched in November this year. Supply chain insiders revealed, "Components are already being supplied, and it's possible for the phones to be released as early as the end of October. Many finished devices have already been produced." Previously, Yu Chengdong, Huawei's Executive Director and BG Chairman, announced at the 2024 Huawei Developer Conference that the Mate70 series will be released in the fourth quarter of this year and will be equipped with the first pure-blooded HarmonyOS system HarmonyOS NEXT.
On September 24, at Huawei's Autumn Full-Scenario New Product Launch Conference, Yu Chengdong further announced the public beta plan for HarmonyOS NEXT, which will officially begin on October 8. The first batch of beta devices will include the Huawei Mate60 series, MateX5 series, and MatePadPro 13.2 series. At the previous Huawei Connect 2024 conference, Zhu Yonggang, President of Huawei Terminal Cloud, announced that over 10,000 applications and metaservices have been listed on the HarmonyOS NEXT application market, and the number of registered developers in the Huawei Developer Alliance has increased to 6.75 million.
It is understood that Huawei will be jointly working with partners and developers from various fields to launch the Harmony Thousand Sails War Preparation Conference, pushing forward the commercialization of native HarmonyOS. Currently, companies like OmniVision Technologies, Lens Technology, Huichuangda, and Walic Technology, all under the umbrella of Weil, are long-term partners in Huawei's terminal industry chain. Previously, there were reports that some models in the Huawei Pura70 series use OmniVision Technologies sensors as the main camera, while the back cover of the Huawei tri-folding MateXT is manufactured exclusively by Lens Technology, which also supplies the camera components. The precision button switch structure and components of Huichuangda have also entered Huawei's supply chain, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Xinweixing directly provides precision connectors and metal shielding covers to companies like Huawei, Transsion Holdings, Xiaomi Technology, Honor, Lenovo Group, and ZTE.
After experiencing two years of decline, Huawei's terminal business returned to growth in 2023. According to Huawei's annual report last year, its terminal business achieved revenue of 251.5 billion yuan in 2023, representing a year-on-year increase of 17.3%. IDC's quarterly tracking report shows that the shipment volume of China's smartphone market in the second quarter of 2024 was approximately 71.58 million units, a year-on-year growth of 8.9%, continuing the upward trend. Among them, Huawei regained the top spot in China's smartphone market shipments in the first half of 2024 with a market share of 17.5%. Notably, after returning in late August 2023, its year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2024 exceeded 100%.
The mass production of the Huawei Mate70 series and the public beta of HarmonyOS NEXT signal Huawei's full-fledged efforts in both the smartphone market and the operating system domain. With the strong return of Huawei's terminal business and the continuous expansion of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, Huawei will continue to play a significant role in the smartphone market and drive innovation in China's technology industry.
