According to the latest leak from smartprix, Qualcomm will be launching the Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship chipset series this year, which is the renamed Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. A well-known Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, also hinted at the "Snapdragon Elite" name and released a picture of the chip in a phone, confirming the name change.
The Snapdragon chipset has undergone multiple name changes throughout its history. From the initial SMxxx to the Snapdragon number series (Snapdragon 810, 888, etc.), and then to Snapdragon 8 Genx, it's now being renamed to Snapdragon Elite. User feedback indicates that the numerical series is much easier to remember, and the position of the chip can be easily identified by the size of the number.
Qualcomm will be holding its 2024 Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii from October 21st to 23rd, where the "Snapdragon 8 Elite" chip will be officially unveiled. Featuring a 2+6 core architecture, the two ultra-large cores will be clocked at 4.32GHz, while the six large cores will run at 3.53GHz, a significant increase compared to the 3.3GHz of the previous generation.
Additionally, Qualcomm has added a new GPU frame interpolation technology to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, supporting game supersampling and frame optimization simultaneously. This allows the chip to completely replace external dedicated graphics chips, providing a gaming experience comparable to native high frame rates.
Based on current information, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be premiered on the Xiaomi 15 series, which is expected to be officially released at the end of October.
