On September 30th, Beijing time, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) made his first public statement after his prison release. He posted on X, outlining his next steps and pledging to continue investing in areas such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.

Last Friday, CZ was released early from a four-month prison sentence. This was due to a plea agreement he reached with the US government last November. Under the agreement, he admitted to money laundering charges, failing to prevent criminals and terrorist organizations from using his exchange, and agreed to pay a personal fine of $50 million, step down as Binance CEO, and serve a four-month prison sentence. This event also made CZ the wealthiest American prisoner in history, with a net worth exceeding $30 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Concurrently, Binance was heavily fined $4.3 billion for alleged violations of U.S. laws and faces years of compliance monitoring by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

In his Sunday X posting, CZ first thanked all his supporters, mentioning their support helped him stay strong during his darkest times. He acknowledged needing time to reflect and decide on his next move, but firmly believing that opportunities in the future always outweigh those of the past. He also offered brief updates on some projects and initial thoughts.

CZ mentioned that his new project the non-profit online educational platform GiggleAcademy is progressing well and will be an integral part of his life in the coming years. He also emphasized that he will continue to invest in blockchain/decentralized technology, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, stating that he is a long-term investor focused on impact rather than returns. He plans to allocate more time and funds to philanthropy (and education) and has already formulated some preliminary ideas. Additionally, he revealed that he is writing a book, having completed two-thirds of it, and he is committed to finishing it despite it being more work than anticipated.

Lastly, CZ touched upon Binance's development: "Binance seems to be doing fine without me, which is great. It's every founder's dream!"
