With just a few days to go before MediaTek officially launches its first 3nm chip, the Dimensity 9400, reports surfaced that the SoC's unit price has increased by 20%. This could potentially lead to phone manufacturers adjusting the prices of their flagship models. However, there might be some good news, as the first phone to feature the Dimensity 9400, the vivo X200 series, could be priced quite competitively, starting at around $570 for the base model.

However, this is just the price for the base model. If you're looking for a more powerful variant, the overall price will increase significantly. @JohnnyManuel_89 displayed a Chinese price list for the vivo X200, X200 Pro Mini, and X200 Pro on X, as shown in the image below. The base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at 3999 yuan, which translates to around $570. This is quite affordable, especially considering that the phone packs a 3nm SoC. Of course, those who opt for the base model will have to make some compromises, so lets look at the higher-end models.

The vivo X200 Pro is likely to be the company's top-of-the-line flagship, and the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant is expected to launch at 6199 yuan, roughly $883. If we directly compare the price, the X200 Pro is still cheaper than the iPhone 16 Pro, and the extra money gets you not only upgraded RAM but also additional storage space.

Now, there could be various reasons behind these figures. For starters, MediaTek might have offered an attractive discount to vivo on the Dimensity 9400, as vivo is reportedly one of the company's first customers. Or maybe vivo is willing to charge lower prices in China to achieve higher sales volume and lower profit margins. Given the fierce competition in smartphone sales in the region, its no surprise to see companies trying to undercut each other to gain a market share advantage. Even Apple, which dominates in other countries, has reportedly been offering significant discounts on various iPhone 15 models in China to increase their shipments.

We wouldnt be surprised if MediaTek is charging less than Qualcomm to gain a foothold in the global chipset market.
