Their smartphone shipments increased by 110% and 50.2% in the first and second quarters respectively. TechInsights also reports that the Pura and Mate series saw significant year-on-year growth in their share of Huawei's total shipments in the second quarter, contributing to an increase in the average selling price of Huawei smartphones.

Huawei's ability to surpass iPhone in market share can be attributed to two key factors:

For instance, the novaFlip, Huawei's new foldable phone, achieved sales exceeding 45,000 units within 72 hours of its launch, representing an 85% increase compared to the PocketS sales. The Pura70 series offers significant improvements in imaging performance, covering a price range from 5,499 to 10,999, catering to diverse consumer needs. Coupled with the Huawei Mate60 series and the growing momentum of the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, these factors have stimulated a strong desire among consumers to choose Huawei.

• The appeal of iPhone has significantly diminished. On the one hand, Apple's smartphone development pace remains slow each year, with essentially four iPhone models launched simultaneously. However, domestic smartphone brands are rapidly developing, with new models released almost every month. As a result, the iPhone digital series has struggled to make an impact. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 series, particularly the standard and Pro versions, exhibit a considerable disparity. Even features like high refresh rates have not been universally adopted. Moreover, the domestic iOS 18 version currently lacks AI capabilities, making it less enticing to consumers.

The second piece of good news is that WeChat's HarmonyOS native version is about to be launched, providing stronger application ecosystem support for HarmonyOS NEXT. The recent news about the WeChat HarmonyOS native version inviting internal testing has generated widespread discussion, with reports suggesting a trial launch this coming Saturday. Additionally, the HarmonyOS native version of WeChat employs a new technical framework and programming language, ArkTS. This necessitates a complete rewrite of all applications to adapt to the new system environment, posing a significant challenge to developers. However, the good news is that the HarmonyOS native version of WeChat already offers fundamental features like basic social communication, audio and video calls, Moments, and QR code-based payments via WeChat Pay. Nevertheless, some functionalities still require further refinement, as the current version lacks complete support for features like sending files, viewing video accounts, and using certain mini-programs.

It's worth noting that Tencent has uploaded the 1.0 version of WeChat OpenSDK to the OpenHarmony third-party library center. This SDK enables integration with the WeChat Open Platform, allowing mobile applications to support WeChat sharing, WeChat collection, and WeChat Pay. For example, QQ Music users can share songs through WeChat, request songs from WeChat friends, or share them on WeChat Moments. Within WeChat, users can directly click to play songs shared from QQ Music. Although not yet fully developed, this is positive news for the future development of Huawei smartphones and the HarmonyOS NETX operating system.
