At the opening speech of the 2024 vivo Developer Conference this morning, vivo officially launched the industry-first kilometer-range off-grid communication technology based on Bluetooth. This technology enables point-to-point voice calls and text transmission exceeding 1.5 kilometers in open environments without network coverage, ensuring users stay connected in situations like hiking and camping.
vivo explained that the technology utilizes communication relay to double the maximum transmission distance for SOS text broadcasts. This kilometer-range off-grid communication technology will debut as a walkie-talkie application on the vivo X200 series. Some existing system 5 models will also be gradually launched during public testing.
It's worth noting that during the launch event for the Dimensity 9400 yesterday, Shi Yujian, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of vivo, delivered a speech announcing the joint development and global debut of kilometer-range off-grid communication technology with MediaTek. The technology will be first launched on the vivo X200 series.
In extreme environments without network coverage, the vivo X200 series' kilometer-range off-grid communication enables point-to-point, long-distance communication via Bluetooth connection. This technology also supports SOS text broadcasting, one-on-one voice and text calls, and map location display, making it applicable to scenarios like outdoor exploration, scientific expeditions, and disaster relief.
