vivo X200 Pro: 200MP Periscope Telephoto Leads the Way, Performance and Battery Life Evolve, Imaging Flagship Gets Upgraded
In the fourth quarter of 2024, vivo's new X series phones arrived as promised. The annual flagship X200 Pro, powered by MediaTek's latest Dimensity 9400 flagship chip, features a 200MP large-sensor periscope telephoto lens, a super thin blue-ocean large battery, and the same ultrasonic fingerprint technology as the X100 Ultra, once again pushing the limits of the flagship phone experience in its class.
I. Appearance: The First Flagship with an Even Depth Quad-Curved Screen, Combining Aesthetics and Feel
The vivo X200 Pro features a 6.78-inch, full, even-depth, slightly curved screen. This is the first flagship phone from vivo to adopt this form. The screen uses an 8TLTPO substrate, supports 0.1-120Hz adaptive high refresh rate, has a global peak brightness of 1800nit, a local peak brightness that reaches 4500nit, and supports 2160Hz full brightness high-frequency PWM dimming. The X200 Pro's screen resolution reaches 1.5K level (28001260), adopts a diamond arrangement, has a standard PPI of 452, and an OLED equivalent PPI of about 370.
The phone screen adopts a 40 micro-arc design, cleverly combining the clear display of a straight screen with the comfortable feel of a curved screen. The rounded portions of the screen adopt a smooth, curved transition, making the visual experience more comfortable and natural.
- The back of the X200 Pro adopts the same titanium color as the X100 Ultra, and its frosted AG glass material reveals a low-key and elegant metallic original color, making the overall design simple and pure. The rear camera module uses a triple-camera module, and the surface of the lenses is covered with ZEISS T coating, which enhances the anti-glare ability of the lenses, reducing light reflection when shooting under strong light or backlight, improving light transmission while making the imaging effect clearer and sharper, and more realistically restoring the scene. In the middle area of the lens module, there are also hidden laser autofocus sensors and infrared remote control sensors, and the lower part is also equipped with a noise-reduction microphone. The camera decorative ring integrates polished drawing and character laser engraving technology, with precise and rigorous details, highlighting the style of high-end technology.
The top of the X200 Pro is equipped with an independent microphone. The bottom of the phone is equipped with a speaker opening, which forms a stereo dual speaker with the earpiece speaker at the top, with a Type-C interface, microphone, and SIM card slot in order from left to right. The vivo X200 Pro supports up to 90W FlashCharge fast charging, and a 90W fast charging kit is included in the package.
II. Performance and Gaming: Dimensity 9400 Chip Leads the Way, High-Load Gaming Frame Rate Is Stable, Power Consumption Control Is Excellent
The vivo X200 Pro is the world's first to launch the top-tier processor co-developed with MediaTek - the Dimensity 9400 mobile platform. It is the first mobile platform on Android to use TSMC's second-generation 3nm (N3E) process technology. The CPU part of the Dimensity 9400 inherits the full-core architecture design of its predecessor, and upgrades the super-large core to ARM's latest Cortex-X925, with a main frequency increased to 3.63GHz. Compared to the previous generation X4, it has improved performance by 36% and AI performance by 41%, and it is paired with 3 2.8GHz Cortex-X4 super-large cores and 4 2.1GHz Cortex-A720 large cores, together forming the industry's strongest CPU architecture to date.
Although the Dimensity 9400 retains the 4+4 full-core architecture design of its predecessor, MediaTek has further enhanced the chip's performance by significantly increasing the cache configuration. Specifically, the L2 cache capacity of the Dimensity 9400 has doubled, increasing from 1MB to 2MB at its highest, and the L3 cache capacity has increased by 50%. This improvement significantly improves multi-core processing capability and performance under high load conditions, further enhancing the overall performance and energy efficiency of the CPU.
In addition, the Dimensity 9400 also adopts the Armv9 architecture instruction set, and its IPC performance exceeds that of Apple's A17 Pro processor, setting a new industry standard.
In terms of the graphics processing unit (GPU), the Dimensity 9400 integrates Mali-G925-ImmortalisMC12, supporting hardware-level ray tracing technology. Compared to the previous generation products, the GPU peak performance is improved by nearly 41%, and the GPU power consumption is saved by up to 44%, achieving low power consumption and high energy efficiency, while the ray tracing performance is also improved by 40%.
The vivo X200 Pro that we tested is the highest configuration version, equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, which, combined with UFS4.0 storage and the Dimensity 9400 processor, constitutes the most powerful performance combination on the market today.
We also conducted theoretical performance and gaming tests on the vivo X200 Pro. While testing the theoretical and game performance of the vivo X200 Pro, we turned off the phone's memory expansion function and enabled performance mode (BOOST mode) for testing.
1. Theoretical Performance Test
First, the Antutu comprehensive performance test, the total score directly exceeded 2.8 million, reaching 286.11 million points. Compared to the previous generation vivo X100 Pro equipped with Dimensity 9300, the comprehensive performance increased by nearly 31%. The CPU score is 608341 points, an increase of 20.4% over the previous generation, while the GPU score broke the million mark, reaching 1267050 points, a performance improvement of about 43.6% compared to the previous generation, indicating a significant improvement in graphics processing capability.
Next, we tested the CPU and GPU performance of the vivo X200 Pro separately. In the Geekbench6 test, the Dimensity 9400's CPU single-core score is 2782 points, and the multi-core score broke 8000, reaching 8834 points. Looking at CPU performance alone, compared to the previous generation Dimensity 9300, the single-core and multi-core scores increased by 23.5% and 15.5%, respectively.
We conducted a flash memory performance test on the phone. Thanks to the support of eight-channel UFS4.0 storage and MCQ multi-cycle queue technology, the sequential read speed of the X200 Pro exceeded 4.0GB/s, reaching about 4.03GB/s, and the write speed was about 3.6GB/s.
2. Game Test
To explore the actual performance of the Dimensity 9400, we selected three high-load mobile games, "Genshin Impact", "Honkai: Star Rail", and "Naruto", and conducted game tests at the highest quality and highest frame rate (with frame rate priority), and recorded the frame rate, power consumption, energy efficiency ratio, and body temperature during the game.
- Genshin Impact
We first tested the high-load mobile game Genshin Impact. At the highest quality setting with 60 frames enabled, we tested for 15 minutes while running in Sumeru City. The average frame rate of the game remained stable at 59.82FPS. The average power consumption of the game is only about 4.1W, and the energy efficiency ratio is 14.6FPS/W, which is nearly 1W lower than the Snapdragon 8Gen3, both saving power and providing a stable frame rate, meeting our expectations for the Dimensity 9400 chip. The back of the phone reached a peak temperature of less than 40 degrees Celsius, only 39.1 degrees Celsius.
- Honkai: Star Rail
Next, we tested the game Honkai: Star Rail. With the highest quality + 60 frame rate enabled, we tested for 15 minutes while running in the Star Swirl Sea Hub. The average frame rate of the game remained stable at 59.64FPS, and the frame rate curve did not fluctuate much. In terms of power consumption, the average was only 4.2W. This game, if played on a Snapdragon 8Gen3 phone, would have a power consumption of at least close to 6W, while the Dimensity 9400 can run it smoothly with only a little over
