Rumors have been swirling in recent months about Apple releasing a new, ultra-thin iPhone model with a redesigned form factor next year. While the official name of this device has yet to be confirmed, industry insiders refer to it as the "iPhone 17 Air." Although details surrounding the device's design and specifications remain debated, most sources agree that it will feature a display size of approximately 6.6 inches.
In July, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that he expects the device to be powered by the standard A19 chip, feature Dynamic Island, a single rear camera, and an Apple-designed 5G modem. Meanwhile, investment bank Haitong International, in a research note this week, analyst Jeff Pu also made predictions about the ultra-thin iPhone 17's specifications. He believes the device will sport a 6.6-inch display and an A19 chip manufactured using TSMC's 3-nanometer process, similar to the A18 Pro chip. Pu further anticipates an aluminum frame, FaceID, a 48MP single rear camera, a 24MP front camera, and 8GB of RAM (AppleIntelligence system).
Pu believes this sleek iPhone 17 will mark a significant design innovation and will replace the existing Plus models as the new mid-range iPhone option. He expects the iPhone 17 Plus to be absent from next year's lineup.
Apple could unveil this device, dubbed "iPhone 17 Air" by the outside world, in September 2025, which is still quite a while away. Therefore, some features might change over time.
Currently, rumors surrounding this ultra-thin iPhone 17 continue to emerge. Although the exact design and specifications await final confirmation, it's clear that Apple is actively exploring new design philosophies to deliver a lighter, more portable smartphone experience for its users.
