If you were left underwhelmed by the upgrades in this year's iPhone 16 series, like the underwhelming camera control button and the unchanged design, next year might bring some surprises. Rumors suggest Apple will release a new model with a completely redesigned look, possibly named iPhone 17Slim or iPhone 17Air. Back in July, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted some specifications for this new model in a report, highlighting that Apple would be focusing on a new design rather than hardware upgrades.

iPhone 17Slim: A New Design, Single Camera Returns

According to the latest report from analyst JeffPu, the iPhone 17Slim will feature:

JeffPu believes the iPhone 17Slim will boast a completely new design and could potentially replace the iPhone Plus series. It's unclear what "replace" means specifically, but considering the historically poor sales of iPhone Plus models, it could indicate Apple's decision to discontinue the Plus line.

Other iPhone 17 Models: Smaller Dynamic Island, Higher Pixel Count

Besides the iPhone 17Slim, Apple will also release the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max next fall. For the high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max, JeffPu claims Apple will implement a smaller "Dynamic Island" for the first time, while other models will retain their existing size. This smaller "Dynamic Island" will reportedly be achieved through a new "metalens" technology, allowing Apple to significantly reduce the size of the FaceID sensor.

Earlier rumors suggested that Apple could introduce an under-display FaceID as early as next year on the iPhone 17 Pro, but current information suggests this is less likely.

It's worth noting that all four iPhone 17 models are expected to feature a 24MP front camera, a significant upgrade from the current 12MP.

Design & Pricing: New Looks Are a Highlight, But Could Be Expensive?

While the iPhone 17 series won't debut until next fall, analysts' predictions are based on supply chain changes, and Apple's final design could still change. However, considering the accuracy of recent iPhone leaks, if Apple makes any adjustments to the iPhone 17, new leaks will likely emerge.

If you're tired of iPhone's current design, the iPhone 17Slim or iPhone 17Air might be worth considering, as the new look is its biggest selling point. However, the pricing of this new model remains a mystery. Reports suggest the iPhone 17Slim could be priced higher than the Pro Max. Considering it won't offer top-tier hardware (no A19 Pro, 12GB RAM, etc.), is it justified to pay a premium price for a new design? We'll need more information before drawing conclusions.
