Pixel 9a May Ditch 64MP Main Camera for the 48MP Found in Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Google's Pixel 9a is expected to launch in March, and we've already seen leaked renders that prominently showcase the absence of the camera island spanning the width of the device like its predecessor. Now, a new rumour suggests the Pixel 9a will be ditching the 64MP main camera of its forebears for the 48MP camera found on Google's most expensive smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a foldable device, doesn't excel in every aspect compared to a plethora of foldable phones from Chinese manufacturers, but in terms of cameras, it beats the Pixel a series. While we know the main camera will be changing, the ultrawide camera is said to remain the same as the Pixel 8a, with a 13MP resolution, and the front-facing selfie camera is also unchanged.
The Pixel 9a will receive the "Add Me" feature that debuted with the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold in August. This enables users to AI-manipulate photos to add themselves to group pictures with friends and family, eliminating the need for a stranger's help to take the shot.
This rumour hints at a potential attempt by Google to bring the impressive camera technology from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold down to the more affordable Pixel 9a. If true, the Pixel 9a's camera performance will receive a notable boost, making it an even more compelling option in its price range.
Of course, this information is still just speculation, and the final specifications and features are subject to Google's official announcement. We're looking forward to learning more about the Pixel 9a and hoping it will prove to be a surprising value proposition.
